The Duck Rock does actually look like a duck. The park service has people going around clockwise into a wash to see the rock, but not a trail to actually visit the rock. Although, from that point people will obviously go to the rock. The problem is that they will trounce through the sand and a lot of cryptobiotic soil. I plotted a route on the rocks and a minor wash area to avoid the cryptobiotic soil. Afterwards, I realized a direct path from an old dirt parking lot on rock and desert rocky soil is perfect. As a matter of fact, upon reaching the old dirt parking lot, the Duck Rock can be seen, but it doesn't look like a duck from that angle. I conclude the best way to enjoy this very scenic area is via a loop.
